   Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy:

The treatment of physical dysfunction or injury by the use of therapeutic exercise and the application of modalities, intended to restore or facilitate normal function or development.

Direct Access:

Refers to the ability of a patient to be evaluated and treated by a physical therapist without being referred by a doctor or other healthcare practitioner. As a result of direct access, in most cases, Medicare patients may receive physical therapy services without seeing a physician or obtaining a referral first. ... However, once a therapist determines that therapy is, in fact, necessary, then that patient must be under the care of a physician or NPP
